Several readers sent me answers to Tuesday’s quiz:
Q1: What big change in the weather happens in Japan in June?
Everybody said that the rainy season begins.
Q2. Which fruit is picked in June and used to make a drink? It is mixed with sugar and alcohol and kept in a jar for three or more months.
Everyone answered plums, and one reader said that she makes “umeshu.”
Q3. What kinds of fish are in season now?
There were several answers: bonito, sweetfish, and horse mackerel.
Q4. What country are the Emperor and Empress of Japan visiting now?
Everyone said the Netherlands. A couple of readers also said Belgium. One reader added that the Emperor and Empress watched the World Cup soccer match between Japan and the Netherlands together with the King and Queen of the Netherlands.
Q5. What kind of flowers bloom in June?
Everyone said hydrangeas, and one reader mentioned that irises bloom in June, too. (158 words)
