When I cancelled a trip to Okinawa because my husband got sick, I suddenly had some free time. I emailed a friend about lunch, but she did not give me an answer. Negative thoughts started spinning around my head. Did I say something wrong to her the last time we met? Did I offend her? After almost three months, she finally responded, and we went out. “Sorry that I missed your message,” she said. Her smartphone had broken, and when she got a new one, she had a hard time using it. I told her I thought that I had done something wrong, and that she did not want to meet me anymore. “Oh, you are thinking too much,” she said and smiled. That bothered me. I used to say the same thing to people around me, but I realized that I didn’t like hearing it from someone else. (149 words)
